Cabinet Refinishing in Hershey & Central PA
Cabinet painting is the most unforgiving job in our trade. Doors get touched hundreds of times a week, so the finish has to bond and it has to be hard.

How we handle cabinet refinishing
Doors and drawer fronts come off and get labeled. Every surface is degreased, because years of cooking leave a film that paint will not stick to. Then we scuff sand, apply a bonding primer, and spray the finish coats.
We use waterborne alkyd or urethane-modified cabinet enamels. They level out smooth like an oil paint but don't yellow the way old oil finishes did. They feel dry within hours but need a few weeks to reach full hardness, so we ask you to go gently with them at first.
Oak cabinets from the 1980s and 1990s are common in this area. Oak has a deep grain that shows through paint. If you want a smoother look, we can fill the grain first, which adds time and cost. We will show you both options on a sample door.

Cabinet Refinishing questions
How much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets near Hershey?
Cabinet painting is priced mainly by the number of doors and drawer fronts, plus boxes, islands and trim. Grain filling on oak and painting cabinet interiors add cost. It usually comes in well below the cost of new cabinets. We give a free written estimate after counting doors on site.
How long does cabinet painting take?
Most kitchens take about one to two weeks from removal to reinstall, depending on size. You can usually still use your kitchen during the work, with the cabinet boxes open while the doors are being finished.
Will painted cabinets chip?
Properly degreased, primed and enameled cabinets hold up well. Chips usually come from skipped prep or from heavy use before the paint fully cures. Cabinet enamels take a few weeks to reach full hardness.
Can you paint oak cabinets without the grain showing?
Yes, with grain filling before primer. Without it, the oak grain texture shows through the paint, which some people like. We make a sample so you can decide.
